Google Cloud announced a flurry of database updates in October 2024. Key announcements include Spanner support in Database Center, the preview launch of Firebase Data Connect, PostgreSQL 17 support in Cloud SQL, Cloud SQL integration with Certificate Authority Service, Cloud SQL for SQL Server Transaction Log Export, creating AlloyDB free trial clusters using a copy of your Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL backup, Model endpoint management availability in AlloyDB Studio, Memorystore support for Valkey 8.0, vector search on Memorystore for Valkey and Redis Cluster, cross-region replication and single-shard clusters, DMS support for MySQL version 8.4 and PostgreSQL version 16, general availability of Spanner Editions, Spanner full-text search, accessing Spanner data directly from BigQuery, hot backups in Bigtable, and property transforms in Firestore in Datastore Mode. Additionally, Google Cloud announced a strategic partnership with Aiven to run high-performance workloads across Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure. Examples were provided of how companies are leveraging Google Cloud databases to improve performance and reduce costs.
