Google Cloud has announced that multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be mandatory for all Google Cloud users during 2025. This will be rolled out in phases, starting in November 2024 with encouraging MFA adoption. Phase two, in early 2025, will require MFA for password logins. Phase three, by the end of 2025, will extend the MFA requirement to federated users. This measure aims to enhance the security of Google Cloud accounts and protect sensitive information. Google Cloud cites that MFA makes users 99% less likely to be hacked. Users can enable 2-Step Verification (2SV) for their Google Accounts now by following two simple steps: accessing security settings and turning on 2SV. Additional resources are available for more information on setting up and deploying 2SV.
