Gartner predicts that by 2028, “80% of custom software running at the physical edge will be deployed in containers, which is an increase from 10% in 2023.” We believe this validates our success in making Google Cloud the best place for customers to run containerized workloads, anywhere. It's exciting to see how containers are powering today’s most innovative apps and businesses — and delivering the infrastructure customers demand as they transform their businesses with AI. Google led the cloud-native and container technology wave in 2014 when we introduced Kubernetes and launched Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), the world’s first managed Kubernetes service. We were proud and humbled to celebrate, along with our customers and industry partners, Kubernetes’ 10th birthday earlier this summer. We set the bar high with GKE, and it’s still the most scalable, secure, and simple Kubernetes service available. Our customers have adopted containers in every industry and GKE now powers some of the world’s largest and most innovative workloads, from global ecommerce platforms to jaw-dropping AI-powered experiences. But GKE was just the beginning! In 2019, we launched Cloud Run, the first platform to combine the benefits of containers and serverless. Today, Cloud Run provides one of the leading developer experiences available from any cloud provider. We also extended GKE to hybrid and multi-cloud environments with Google Distributed Cloud, and introduced Autopilot mode in GKE in 2021. Today, GKE delivers the AI infrastructure in the Google AI Hypercomputer, and developers globally use both Cloud Run and GKE to create truly amazing AI-powered apps and experiences. Wherever our customers build and run containers, from Google Cloud to other clouds to the data center and the edge, we aim to deliver the most simple, comprehensive, secure, and reliable container platform for all workloads.
